Amy McFeely
Kitchen & Bath Designer
What inspired you to get into design?
Growing up, I found my love for design through HGTV and rearranging my room. I was constantly rearranging my room (and still do) and I loved it-both the planning out where to put things and the actual act of doing it. My parents also had several home improvement projects done through the years. A family friend did most of them and I always loved either watching what he was doing or getting to help out with the process.
What is your favorite design style and why?
I like all kinds of design but one of my favorites would probably be contemporary or a modern farmhouse style.
How do you approach design jobs?
When starting a design job, it is important to make sure you find out the clients needs-what they like and dislike about a space, what they want improved, and their goals on how to use the space. That’s really the start of any project.
What advice would you give someone considering a kitchen/bath remodel?
Make sure that you love your kitchen! You don’t redesign your whole kitchen or bathroom everyday so it’s important to make sure that whatever you end up with, you absolutely love and don’t settle for anything.
What is a fun fact about you?
I love to play the piano. I started lessons when I was about 8 years old and took them all the way up to my senior year of high school.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
Even though I’m just starting out, I love being able to help the designers with their projects and getting to see the difference they are making in their client’s everyday lives. In the future, that’s one of the parts I am looking forward to most when designing-getting to make a difference in people’s everyday lives.
